Comhairle na nÓg are local youth councils for children and young people, aged 12-17, that give them a voice on the development of local policies and services. They are recognised key national structures for participation by children and young people in local decision making in all 31 local authorities of the country.
We are the youth council of Waterford who represent all of Waterford's young people. We work on local issues using our voices, and we do everything we can to help our community. We take on different projects every year such as Homelessness, Mental Health, Equality and Climate Change. Comhairle Na nÓg is a safe space for young people to voice their opinions and for their voices to be heard.
We represent the voice of young people on many representative bodies in Waterford, including the Children and Young People's Services Committee (CYPSC), the ETB Youth Work committee, Purple Flag, and the Joint Policing Committee (JPC).
We enable young people to have an impact on a topic of their own choosing. We worked on a project entitled "Homelessness in Waterford" for 2018, and the 2019 Project was focused on Mental Health and substance abuse. Our project for 2020-2021 has been "Communitree". We can't wait to show you it!
